Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (SZX) is located on the western side of Shenzhen, about 30 km from Futian (the CBD and main hotel zone). Metro Line 11 (Airport Express) connects SZX to Futian Station in approximately 30–40 minutes. This is the fastest and most reliable option for reaching central Shenzhen.
Taxis and DiDi are readily available at SZX. Under normal conditions, the trip to Futian or Luohu takes about 35–55 minutes. SZX is also well-connected to Guangzhou (70 minutes by high-speed rail from Shenzhen North Station), making cross-city transit possible for longer layovers.
Important: SZX has excellent public transport connections thanks to the Airport Express metro. For transit visitors, Line 11 is the most efficient route into the city and avoids the highway toll charges of taxis.
Shenzhen 240-Hour Visa-Free Transit: What You Need to Know
Eligible foreign travelers entering via SZX can use the 240-hour visa-free transit framework if they hold onward tickets or related proof with confirmed seats and departure dates to a third country or region. Shenzhen and Guangdong Province are included in the expanded interconnected transit zones.
Within the permitted window, you may travel freely within the designated transit zone. Movement outside the officially designated regions requires a standard visa. Verify your nationality's eligibility before arrival.
Hotel registration is mandatory. Your accommodation must register your passport within 24 hours. International and established hotels in Shenzhen handle this routinely. Smaller guesthouses and unlicensed properties may not be authorized to host foreign travelers.
- Permitted area: Expanded interconnected transit zones including Guangdong Province and connected regions
- Must hold onward tickets or related proof with confirmed seats and departure dates to a third country/region
- Border control retains final discretion even when a route appears compliant
