Tianjin Airport Commute Times (TSN)

Tianjin Binhai International Airport (TSN) is located in the Binhai New Area, about 15 km from Tianjin city center. Metro Line 2 connects TSN to the city center (Binjiang Dao, Yingkou Dao, and surrounding areas) in approximately 30–40 minutes. This is the fastest and most predictable option.

Taxis and DiDi are available at TSN. Under normal traffic conditions, the trip to Wudadao or Ancient Culture Street takes about 25–45 minutes. Tianjin traffic is generally lighter than Beijing, making taxis reasonably reliable.

Important: Tianjin is also served by Beijing-bound trains from Tianjin Station (30 minutes to Beijing South by high-speed rail). Travelers with Beijing in their transit plan who land at TSN can theoretically add a Beijing day trip, though you should plan the logistics carefully given the visa-free permitted areas.

Tianjin 240-Hour Visa-Free Transit: What You Need to Know

Eligible foreign travelers entering via TSN can use the 240-hour visa-free transit framework if they hold onward tickets or related proof with confirmed seats and departure dates to a third country or region. Tianjin Municipality is included in the expanded interconnected transit zones, which also cover Beijing and Hebei.

This means you can travel freely between Tianjin and Beijing during your permitted stay — opening up a dual-city layover strategy within the same visa-free framework. Verify your nationality's eligibility and confirm the specific zones before arrival.

Hotel registration is mandatory. Your accommodation must register your passport within 24 hours. International and established hotels handle this routinely. Smaller guesthouses and unlicensed properties may not be authorized to host foreign travelers.

  • Permitted area: Expanded interconnected transit zones including Tianjin, Beijing, Hebei, and connected regions
  • Must hold onward tickets or related proof with confirmed seats and departure dates to a third country/region
  • Border control retains final discretion even when a route appears compliant

Top Tianjin Attractions Foreign Visitors Should Know About

The Five Great Avenues (Wudadao) district is Tianjin's most distinctive neighborhood — a preserved collection of European-style mansions and villas built during the concession era, set along tree-lined streets. It is free to walk through and best explored on foot or by pedicab (traditional three-wheeled rickshaw). Allow 2–3 hours. Accessible by Metro Line 3 at Dabao Subway Station.

Ancient Culture Street (Guwenhua Jie) is a recreated traditional marketplace near the Hai River, with handicraft shops, street food, and the Tianhou Temple. It is bustling and lively — particularly good in the morning and evening. Free to enter the street; some attractions inside have small fees. Accessible by Metro Line 2 or 9.

The Italian Style District (Yishi Fengqing Qu) near the Hai River is another concession-era architectural zone with European buildings, cafés, and restaurants. Less crowded than Wudadao, it is ideal for a quieter stroll. For longer stays, Tianjin's excellent Binjiang Dao shopping street and the new Porcelain House are also worthwhile.

  • No reservation required: Wudadao, Ancient Culture Street, Italian Style District (all free to walk)
  • Best under 12 hours: Wudadao villa district walk, Ancient Culture Street, Hai River promenade
  • Best with 24h+: Italian Style District, Tianjin Eye (Ferris wheel), Dule Temple in Jixian
